Aria Son, MSW Intern

I believe everyone has the power and potential to overcome challenges and flourish in their lives. Sometimes people just need the proper guidance in finding their inner strength to help them live a more fulfilled and happier life. I aim to meet people where they are and help them process their experiences. My therapeutic approach includes evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, client-centered, strength-based, and mindfulness practices. In addition to these approaches, I believe that educating people on both the psychological aspects and the physiological effects of their experiences is essential for navigating life more easily. Understanding why the body feels a certain way is just as crucial as grasping how the mind feels.

I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Biology. During my undergraduate studies, I gained valuable experience working with clients with neurological and behavioral disorders under hospice care. Additionally, I was involved in a research team of physiology and pharmacology with the Department Head of Veterinary Medicine, where we examined the effects of cannabinoid intake on the frontal lobe and hindbrain to enhance the quality of life for individuals with medical needs. After earning my degree, my deep-seated passion for helping others and making positive impacts led me to pursue a Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Georgia. While my interest in neuroscience and clinical research remains strong, my commitment to psychological health and well-being has inspired me to shift my long-term goal from becoming an MD to becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), so I can work directly with clients to support their mental health and find inner peace.

Outside the office, I work at two nonprofit organizations and do outreach to better the quality of lives of diverse communities. I was born in Sydney, Australia, but have lived in Georgia for over 30 years. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, spending time with my dog, watching movies, and traveling to wherever life takes me!
